16th National Pensioners’ Parliament

3rd-5th June 2008, Blackpool Winter Gardens

Every year, the Pensioners’ Parliament strengthens its position as the biggest annual gathering of older people in the country and in 2008 it will mark the centenary of the first ever Old Age Pension.

The event will start with the traditional march to the Winter Gardens from the North Promenade and the opening session will pay tribute to the pension pioneers who secured the first ever old age pension 100 years ago, and mark the on-going campaign for a decent State pension.

Day two will focus on all aspects of older people’s health, with six specialist sessions covering social and long-term care, primary and hospital care, mental health and the role of carers.

Finally, there will be campaign sessions to look at post offices, concessionary travel and age discrimination - and all alongside a range of guest speakers, a popular exhibition area and some excellent entertainment; providing the ideal atmosphere in which to discuss and share ideas whilst mixing with old and new friends.
