National Health and Safety Inspection Day

Advice has been received from the TUC that the Wednesday of European Health and Safety Week has been designated "National Inspection Day" when all safety representatives are asked to inspect their workplace. In 2005 this will be on the Wednesday 26th October 2005.

I would urge as many TSSA Health & Safety reps as possible to carry out their legal rights to inspect workplaces for health, safety, and welfare problems on this day.

What Health and Safety Reps can do

Use the 26th of October to focus on any work related problems with either the lack of repair and maintenance etc, or any problem you see as a priority. When you have completed your inspection discuss your findings with your employer or use whatever domestic procedures you may have to ensure that the problems identified are resolved.

Resources

The TUC has produced a simple guide to inspections that includes forms, adapted from the HSE recommended forms, and a checklist. These can be downloaded from the TUC website.

In addition there is a poster that safety representatives can put up in their workplace in the run-up to National Inspection Day. This is available in black and white for printing off on an ordinary copier or in colour for those with more sophisticated copying facilities. Both of these can be downloaded from the TUC website at the address above
